Welcome to our website, my name is Marlene and with my son Stuart, we run the Kandalari Cattery in beautiful Tasmania. We live in Glenorchy behind our wonderful Mt Wellington and since purchasing a digital camera, I have taken some lovely pictures of the snow-capped mountain from our backyard.

We began breeding Burmese cats in 1992. A year later, we purchased our first Black British Shorthair (Minzera Black Douglas). We decided back then that colours were more challenging and we bought a Blue Cream/White girl (Kaloofa Cotton Candy) and that was the beginning of our love affair with these wonderful cats.

We started showing Minzera Black Douglas, although he has now passed onto kitty-cat heaven (gold-fish bowl in-the sky), we were able to show him for four years until he said "enough is enough, no more showing, thank you!!!".

Daring to show a British Shorthair that wasn''t blue was almost a sacrilege in those days but thankfully some judges were able to look past the colour and could see that his type was good. He went on to become Silver Double Grand Champion and won his ACF Award of Excellence and was CAT Inc. 3rd Best Group 3 Cat of the Year in 1995, 1996, 1998 and 2nd best in 1997.

We are still educating the public that the British Blue is actually a British Shorthair. Some people have no idea that there is such a wide variety of colours Black, Blue, Chocolate, Lilac, Cream, Tortie's, Bi-colours, Colourpoints.
